Let me start by saying I have never written a review before; however, this incredible disaster of a product requires that I write a review. This product is promoted as a simple to hook up product - this is a big line of garbage. I have spent over 3 hours on the phone with tech support and they can't even tell me why their product isn't working. I have limited knowledge of this type of product, yet I can conduct the same troubleshooting as is offered through tech support. For the price and difficulty of setup I would not recommend this product. For those of you who think you will be more successful please think again; like I said I don't write reviews yet this product required me to say something.

I have a Linksys EA4500 Wifi router, I was trying to extend its coverage to my kitchen, that is 10 meters and two walls away from it.I did some research at cisco.com and find that this new RE2000 is just what I needed to do it, so I bought it.The day I received it, I opened the box and started to follow the instructions to install it. That was the first set back. The installer does not work and before the installation ends it show an error message and stops.Because I have some expertise in data networks I did a little web research and found that the RE2000 can be accessed using a web browser, like in the old WRT54G. I did it and perform a manual configuration, It's a very simple pice of HW so there isn't a lot of options to configure. I set up a static route to my EA4500, the wifi password to access it and just in case changed the admin password.It never worked, I have a strong signal now in places that it was no signal before, but I can't connect to the internet. The most annoying thing is that when I go to the status screen on the RE2000, everything is normal, and I have packages going from and to the router.Very disappointed, I would like to return it, but because I live outside the US the shipment and taxes are more than the RE2000 value :-(

I bought both a Securifi Almond touch-screen extender and this RE2000/N300. They both have advantages and disadvantages but I am using the RE2000 because it works much better as a range extender than the Almond, with a stronger signal and faster throughput.The Almond is super easy to set up - the touch screen is not just a gimmick, it works as advertised to painlessly set it up, especially as a range extender. It just wasn't very powerful, even after I got a replacement unit from Securifi - the first unit's signal was very weak, not being very strong even close to the unit and dropping drastically in just a 25' distance in open air. I sent it back and the replacement unit while better was still not nearly as good as the RE2000/N300. Customer service from Securifi is top-notch and hassle-free, though.I had more problems setting up the RE2000 - very little documentation comes with it. I could not use the CD to set it up because my router is not WPS compliant where you just basically press the button on the RE2000 to connect it - after finally figuring this out after going a few rounds with their live customer support by web chat, I was directed to a webpage that gave the steps to manually configure the unit via ethernet cable - if I had known this at first it would have saved me several hours of frustration, since I am already familiar with manually setting up various routers over the years. It's not complicated at all but they should include at least some paper documentation with the unit showing how to do this (and that it is even an option!).Once set up the RE2000/N300 worked fine, and has been fine for over a week now non-stop, no further adjustments necessary. The signal is a lot more powerful and has much greater range than the Securifi, and I am able to get faster data rates. Using the Xirrus Wi Fi Inspector program on a laptop, the best signal strengths with the new Securifi were measured at between -47 to -50 dBm at 25' distance from the unit, while the RE2000 was about -42 dBm (the less negative number being better, every 3dBm represents a doubling of the signal strength - so the RE2000's signal is about 4 times stronger).Also worth mentioning is that the RE2000 is seamless - your wireless network keeps the same SSID or name, whereas the Securifi appends a string _almond to your wireless network name - and you must connect to that network. So with the Almond if your original wireless network is called MyWireless, you will have to connect to MyWireless_almond to use the extended range provided by the Almond. With the RE2000 no change in connection is needed. Not a big deal but just much easier in my opinion.So I am sticking with the RE2000/N300, and will gift the Securifi to a needy family member. They both work but for me, the greater power and range of the RE2000 outweighs any ease of use or "coolness" factor of the touch screen and flawless setup that the Securifi provides.
