The Amped Wireless High Power 8dBi Omni-Directional Outdoor WiFi Antenna is designed to increase the signal strength and range of your 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n WiFi device in all directions. The high gain antenna provides Wi-Fi devices, such as routers, access points, adapters, repeaters and bridges, with more powerful, 360 degree, point to multipoint, WiFi coverage. The A8EX replaces the antenna on your existing WiFi device and concentrates your WiFi device's signal in all directions to cover distances of up to 1 mile*. The High Power Outdoor Antenna Kit includes everything you need to mount the antenna outdoors on a wall or on a pole.

I purchased the omni and the directional antennas and together they work good, im not so sure about the 1 to 1.5 miles like stated on amped wireless website. I have mine set up about 800 to 900 feet apart and i'm getting a signal strength of 62%, I'm using a Asus N-16 router with dd-wrt firmware on both ends. The one thing I found is that with these antennas I had to turn the transmit power down on the routers to get a good steady signal strength.

I am a installer and I was trying to set up a wireless network from a pole barn to a house. The house was less then 300 feet away and I had between a 40-50% signal outside the house, but it dropped inside the house. The door killed the signal. It couldn't even make it past a glass window. After spending all day trying all the broadcast channels, locations, giving it line of sight. I finally called the support number. After going through some questions and configuration I had already tried, I was then informed that this antenna is only rated for 200' and the R10000 router is only rated for 100'. I'm not sure why they advertise themselves as being high powered or extended. I knew the theoretical distance of a mile was out of the question, but it couldn't even reach from a pole barn to a house.As a independent installer, I wanted to take on the task of a extended wireless network. It wasn't the first time someone had requested it. I went for it, and lost about 8 hours of work, over an hour of travel and I'm having to refund money for the first time.I'm sure their are legitimate broadcasting gear for longer wireless networking, but Amped Wireless is not the solution. They have greatly hyped the capabilities of their products. If they had been honest on their web site, and advertised that the extended external antenna is only rated at 200' away. I wouldn't have wasted my time and reputation.

This has to boost a signal from about 150ft clear line of sight away. I bought the range extender to go with it and I am currently using my old router. Once or twice a day the signal drops away and I have to unplug the extender for about 15 seconds but then it works again. Prior to this I had used an other brand of range extender and that one had to be reset several times per day. I probably will end up getting the router that matches this with another external antenna and will update with those results if I do. This would have gotten 5 stars if I did not have to reset the system daily. I don't believe that should be necessary as the distance is clear line of sight to the router and considerably less than a mile, but it is definitely better than what I had.
