I'm impressed by how quickly this range extender was to set up. When I removed it from the box, I saw the ethernet port on the bottom and instantly groaned. I thought I was going to have to crawl behind my computer, grab a spare CAT5 and plug it in just to set it up as a WIRELESS extender. Fortunately, I bothered to take a glance at the instructions, and found that you do not actually have to connect this via Ethernet (though I appreciate that it's an option!), you can just plug it into a wall outlet, connect to it wirelessly, then plug in a simple URL in your browser. Connecting it to the right wifi network and setting the password only took a minute, and once that was done I could experiment to find the best place to put it.It ended up in our bedroom, in an outlet right next to the door. At about 330am, I actually found out that this is a handy spot, because of the tiny blue LED casting a faint but usable amount of light around the bedroom door, I was able to find my way across the room more easily than normal. I'm not even kidding, I think my favorite part about this extender is that little blue LED acting as a very mellow night light. Granted, the extender is facing away from the bed, so it's possible for the LED to be an annoyance depending on where you plug it in.Speeds are pretty solid, just about as good as a direct connection to our wireless router, but at a much further range.

It is easy to install. Find a plug at the edge of your router's range and plug the extender in. Although it has a cd, you don't need it to set up the extender. Just follow the directions given in the box. After step 3 you might think you are not connected, but still continue to step 4 and follow the on screen directions, and it will configure the extender to your network.We have our router in my daughter's room and we put the extender in my room just off the kitchen and next to the backyard. The WIFI would usually drop off in the backyard. After putting in the extender, I was able to walk out to my daughter's fort which was in the back corner of the yard and FaceTime with my mom.

I tried to set this up on my computer, and got very confused.First of all, you do not need the cd to connect. All it has is the instruction manual.On my Vista computer, I had to disconnect from my current network, and use the network connection center to connect to the Belkin setup network. Fortunately, I figured this out on my own, since there are no instructions on the packaging, it only says to connect to the network!At that point, my network connection center told me I wasn't connected to the Internet, so I couldnt finish the installation, I thought! My daughter came to the rescue, and had me follow the instructions anyway, and I discovered that the address is located inside of the extender. It then walks you through the set up process on your computer.Once the extender was included in my network, it covered all of the areas where I had been missing signal. My iPad and iPhone easily recognize it and log in.It is secure, since it requires the same password as the original network in order to log in. And, if you were thinking of using this to "borrow" your neighbor's wifi, you will need the password for their connection in order to hook it up, so you will have to either get your own, or bring your neighbor some cookies and beg for mercy.Nice, very nice.
