Awesome Little Drives! Software included has Backup capability, I bought several of these, and one was used as a backup and that computer failed several days later. The great part of the backed up data was that I plugged it into my laptop, assumed ownership rights, and i was able to directory browse the backed up data and pull the individual files i needed!!

This might read like, "well, duh" to some readers, but I will pass it on to the rest of you. I received this unit today and formatted it with ease on my MacBook pro, but my IMac wouldn't recognize it, despite the the power light on the MiniStation lighting up brightly. At first I thought it was a Snow Leopard (laptop)/Leopard (IMac) problem, but after wasting a lot of time on hold with Buffalo Tech support and then with the super nice (American, if that's important to you) Buffalo Tech rep, I unplugged the MiniStation from my powered CyberPower High-Speed 7-Port USB Hub and connected it directly to one of the IMac's own 2.0 USB ports and it was recognized immediately. I don't know if this is just an issue with the CyberStation hub (I found my old WD 200 gb portable drive wasn't recognized through the hub either) or with similar multi-port, powered hubs, but since I almost sent back the MiniStation I wanted to give other non-techie types a heads up. The Buffalo guy was surprised, too. This is a big deal to me since I want to eventually phase out all my clunky external drives with these portable, USB-powered, smaller ones and I will need a multi-port hub to connect them all. I'd be interested to get feedback from people familiar with this issue.OTHERWISE: I can't attest to its longevity or durability at this point, but it is nicely compact and easy to format. Exactly what I wanted. I don't have 3.0 USB capability on either Mac, but it works fine with 2.0. I unscientifically tested the MiniStation's transfer speed by copying the same 8.2 gb movie to it and and my desktop Iomega 1.5tb drive simultaneously from the IMac and they both transferred in about 8 minutes. For now, I have no complaints.

This hard drive is extremely impressive. My new Dell desktop came with a pci express card that is a hub for at least 2 USB ports that are 3.0. When I first hooked up the drive to my new PC (first time either had been used - the drive or the USB Hub) ... it did not work. So I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port and all was fine! It obviously had to initialize the hardware and install a plug n' play driver for it. After that worked out I was able to plug it into one of my USB 3.0 ports and it was good! - - I think because it was too much for my computer to reason with initially. e.g. Installing drivers for the new hard drive and (perhaps) the port/hub - - at the same time.
