The Amped Wireless High Power Wireless Pro SmartRepeater expands the range of your wireless network byrepeating the signal from your home or office wirelessaccess point or router. With a high power 600mW poweramplifier and a high gain bi-directional antenna, theSR600EX is capable of repeating networks up to 1.5miles* away. The Pro Access Point features a weatherproofoutdoor/indoor enclosure with desktop, wall andpole mounting options. The SR600EX features 2 networkports for connecting additional PCs, network switchesand other devices. So i've searched around for many repeaters for my wi-Fi range extending problem and I came across those from Hawking, Linksys, among many others. I saw this one on an Engadget review and came to my favorite shopping location to purchase it (Amazon).... Received the unit very quickly and the first thing i noticed is that the box was heavier than i thought it was going to be (around 3 lbs or so). This was already a good sign since i was used to those cheap, lightweight plastic computer products. But this was not one of them. The Pro Repeater came with a 30 foot cable, a metal desktop stand (which I didn't need), another 3 foot patch cable, a power over ethernet adapter and power adapter. The unit itself is made with very good craftsmanship and also looks really slick. Now to the application..I have a backhouse thats about 500 feet from my front house which i have a linksys router. The backhouse gets 0 signal. I purchased the SR600EX and set it up in my backhouse. Attached the power adapter to the wall and connected the PoE adapter to it (Amped includes very helpful tags so only a dummy would connect it wrong). Anyways i placed the repeater on the outside wall of the backhouse and then did a scan w/ my computer. There was my linksys network!! I now have full bars in the backbouuse and whats best is the PoE adapter also has an extra RJ-45 port where i've connected by wired bluray player with Netflix! I have my IPad which i can use freely throughout the 1000 sq ft backhouse as well as in my yard beyond the backhouse.I called Amped's service department also to see how i could get my speed faster and the very friendly rep recommended pairing it up with the AP600EX (which i installed in the front house and pointed it towards the backhouse). The agent told me that this setup was good for 2 miles+ and that its always good to have HIGH POWER UNITS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CONNECTION (he really stressed this point) but all i needed it for was 500 ft or so. Either way, i'm ecstatic, my wife is happy and the kids are also! I highly recommend Amped based on their product performance and customer service! Thanks Amped!

I am about to stress test this unit, but before I come back with the results, I want to clarify some misconceptions about this product that I noticed by reading the reviews so far.I wouldn't call this product a "repeater". It is rather a "wireless network extender". What it does is it uses the existing WiFi signal in your house and creates a new WiFi network with a different SSID. It is not an extender of your existing WiFi network. If you think this product will "boost" or "increase" the range of your network, it will not. It will create a new WiFi network that piggy-backs on your existing WiFi network, most probably because where you will install it there are no available LAN ports for an additional WiFi access points. Having this in mind, do not expect to roam seamlessly throughout the house, the SR600EX blasts a different SSID than your original WiFi network, so your devices need to be able to switch SSIDs as you roam. So far, I see more use of this product in point-to-point WiFi network design in conjunction with the AP600EX (e.g., to extend a LAN from point A to B wirelessly and redistribute the signal at point B with other methods, assuming no one needs to access WiFi between A and B). I got both the AP600 and the SR600 direct from Amped Wireless online store. After spending 10 weeks trying to make this set work I give up. I had their tech support tell me to RMA return first the SR600 because it would not even come on and then a month later the AP600 because they said it had low power output.There is 250 feet between my two buildings. line of sight and both units were mounted on outside of building and perfectly aligned. The unit never received above 69% signal. They will tell you 70% is not enough, needs to be more like 80% minimum. It was difficult to get them to say what was needed.There tech support personal (I talked to 5 different people) were nice to me and we spent hours on the phone trying to make this work. Some of them did not seem to know anymore about the stuff than I did.Finally the tech said I should give up and send the stuff back. After he talked to his manager again, he said I was screwed and that they would not give me an RMA because it was after 60 days. Can you believe that? It was longer than 60 days because I had two separate RMA returns that traveled across the country four times!!I recommend that you run (not walk) as far away from Amped Wireless as you can.Cheers
