Bought 2 of these to see if they would improve the performance of a church campus WiFi network. The system is made up of a central access point (Proxim 4000, an oldie but a goodie) and 5 Encore router/repeaters spread around the campus. Each repeater has 2 antennas, so only 2 areas of the campus are (so far!) served by units with these antennas.While there has not yet been time to conduct extensive measurements using inSSIDer, I am surprised and glad to report significant increases in transfer rate, as measured by Speakeasy's online test, in one of the areas served by a repeater with these antennas. The repeater and Acer netbook used in this test connected over 802.11g. The church's internet connection is a T1 line, with maximum throughput measured in the server closet on a hardwired connection of about 1.5 Mbps down and 1.35 Mbps up (results varied from test to test, but these numbers represent typical results).Throughput before the panel antennas were installed:Down: 0.28 MbpsUp: 0.16 MbpsThroughput after the panel antennas were installed:Down: 1.26 MbpsUp: 1.01 MbpsWe observed some variance in transfer rates over several tests, both for the better and for the worse; these results are typical.Will conduct further testing and supply before and after signal strength numbers, measured using inSSIDer, as soon as possible. But the throughput results were so striking, and so unexpected, that I wanted to post this review now.It's important to remember that your results may be very different. This installation is in a semi-rural location, with (presumably) very low radio interference. If your location sees heavy traffic in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, your results may not be nearly as good as ours. Another important consideration is that these are directional antennas. The "hot" side of the antenna has the ALFA logo on it, and to see the kind of improvement we saw, the antennas have to be properly aimed.Bottom line: I'll be ordering more of these antennas, both for the church and for home use. It's hard to imagine a better return on investment, if the goal is improving the performance of a low-cost, low-power WiFi installation and the installation is suited for use of directional antennas. If your situation and goals are like ours, I recommend these remarkable low-cost, performant antennas.

I have a 2000mw Alfa Adapter(the white one). My wifi network is roughly 250' away from my shop, where I have this set up. With a plain omnidirectional antenna on my router, and an omnidirectional on my adapter, I get about 70% signal strength and ~45% link quality.With the panel antenna on my adapter and an omni on my access point, I get about 85% signal strength and link quality. I've ordered more so that I can place one on my router as well. Im expecting signal strength/quality to be in the 90% range.

These are high quality. I don't see how you could break these "accidently". More power is not always the answer for a house. Most times more power on an omni actually hurts rather than helps - reflections raise the RF noise floor. Directivty and isolating from other neighborhood routers and household wifi adapters is the key. I have used these on high power Sabrent NT-WGHU and low power Sunvalleytek External USB 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Adapters. These made a huge difference on link quality. I get 6db of gain according to the ralink software for the Sunvalleytek. I have no doubt the design is a 7db design but you rarly get design values.
