This is the long awaited successor to Alfa's popular AWUS036H. The AWUS036NHR utilizes a new 802.11n chipset from Realtek (RTL8188RU) and is light years ahead of its predecessor. Alfa's AWUS036NHR combines the fast speed of 802.11n with long range reception for both 802.11g and 802.11n standards. This Device is the best Alfa has Produced yet.
If you're built-in Wi-Fi adapter is not picking up your Router or if you are trying to pick up Wi-Fi from long distances then this is the device to get! The AWUS036NH Receiver sensitivity will allow you to connect from greater distances and get stronger signals to Wi-Fi networks around you. Most Network Adaptors can get great Range and sensitivity when the router that they are receiving form is set to "N-only" mode which blocks backward compatibility with B and G adaptors but most people are not able to set the router to N-only mode as this would block connectivity for G-only devices like iPhones, Android phones, and many DVRs. This AWUS036NHR is one of the first Wi-Fi adapters to get very good receive sensitivity to both 802.11n-only, 802.11n/g mixed, and 802.11g networks

I purchased this to reach down the street to my mother-in-laws so she can get online with my WiFi. My router is the D-link 655, FYI. Her house is about 1 football field away. The signal goes through the side of my house, down the street (same side of the road so not line of sight), around 6 other houses until it hits her house which it goes through her outside wall and one inside wall to get to her computer.I first tested this with my laptop (Windows 7 x64) on her porch. My first problem is this product needs drives installed to work on my Windows 7 x64 computer. I tried the ones from the CD that was packed with it. No Dice. Finally I used the ones from here [...] The Chipset in the Alfa AWUS036NHR needs the RTL8188RU drivers. I didn't install the whole downloaded package I just unzipped it and used my device manager to point to the driver folder in the unzipped drivers folder.I was able to get the signal with the 5dBi antenna that came with it. When right clicking on the wireless connection and choosing "Status" I was getting a speed between 15Mbps and 30Mbps. Switching her antenna to a longer Alfa 9dbi antenna I was pulling 30Mbps and 45Mbps. I then tried the 7Dbi panel antenna and it went between 45Mbps and 60Mbps. Plenty fast enough for her to surf the net looking at News and youtube...Inside I expected a huge difference. Her system is Windows 7 x32. The driver Package I had already downloaded had drivers for both X32 and x64 Win 7, Vista, and XP. I didn't try the CD again I just used the already downloaded ones. I experienced the same pattern as on the porch. The 5 and 9Dbi antenna was weaker again. The flat panel 7Dbi stuck at 45Mbps.In summary, BUY IT. She picked up 10+ signals and my town is tiny. I plan to buy more of the directional flat panel 7dbi antennas to replace my ones on my router. While I sit 15 foot away from my router now on my laptop I'm pulling between 150Mbps and 216Mbps.If this review was helpful please click that it was so it stays on top.

If your running linux or backtrack, you will need to recompile the compat driver to get your max power. as this is not an issue with the antenna itself, but an issue with the newest drivers for backtrack and Linux. (if you choose that driver,at least at this time although the default driver works great in windows.). after a quick fix on the compat drivers, its max power is realized and is just awesome, yea it took me two days to figure out why I was having trouble with the power setting in Linux, till I discovered the little problem of the driver issue. it was a quick fix and boom, all done recompiled and flying. I guess maybe it was the hunt that made it fun, as a why cant I, kind of issue. well after taking it to the max I downgraded to 20dbm. although it is powerful enough for 33 dbm. and power consumption is noticeable at higher dbm. it was a learning experience and well worth my time. a personal issue I do have is that this dongle exceeded the amount of allowable power in most country's, check your local laws on what is allowed in your area. otherwise its a great buy.overall great wireless dongle, easy set up works great. able to easily pick up signal, steady signal, no drop offs.and on a side note of sorts, I recently took a trip and brought it with me, dropped it twice, fearing the worse, as it feels light weight, plugged it in, and did not have a problem at all. worked just fine. I was very happy. my suggestion would be a definite buy, as the good way out ways the bad. and even in the bad you learn something.

Wow. I'm totally awed by the performance of this device. I'm using it to share wireless internet over a half mile away and it pulls in the signal like I'm sitting in my next door neighbor's living room. Buy this item, you will not be disappointed.
