I tried this No-Name Brand Wireless-N Wifi Repeater/Access Point/Extender all-in-one as a replacement to the problematic refurbished Netgear Universal WN3000RP Wi-Fi Range Extender. Instructions are straight forward if you overcome the initial confusion brought about by relatively flawed english in some parts of the texts. I like to manually configure my wifi systems and are used to tinkering with setups without using the wizard option. I had very little problem with the manual configuring and I was connected to the internet after just a little over 5 minutes of setup. Just for curiosity, I also tried configuring it using the setup wizard. I could confidently say that this too was relatively easy. However, since we use multi-worded SSID for our household wifi network, the setup wizard was only able to partially copy the name of the main SSID for the SSID Repeater/Extender field, I had to supply the missing words to complete it. After that very minor adjustment, it was ready for internet surfing after the final reboot of the WiFi Repeater.Since it is a no-name brand machine, looking for firmware upgrades may be hard in coming. So the best way to find updates is simply to Google the specific model name WS-WN518N2 plus the word "firmware". Several sites would come up pointing you to available upgrades. One such URL would be www.win-star.com. Although, the picture in the website is slightly different from the unit I have, that is, I have three led lights on my unit -- power, wifi signal, AP link; the one in the win-star.com website has only power and link. I experimented with the firmware available on the website with my unit, and the upload went smoothly. It would be best to save the settings first before updating firmware because it would reset the configuration of the unit.I surmise the other wifi repeaters available on Amazon.com that look very much like this unit are actually one and the same model (e.g. USpeed WiFi Repeater/AP/Range Extender). Disappointing however would be the big price difference among the various sellers.Performance wise, I would say that it is highly comparable to Repeaters/Extenders for the Wireless-N band. I need however to test it extensively in terms of how far its range would reach. Suffice to say that our two floor house is now fully covered with no dead spot. Connection is stable, in comparison to my disappointing experience with the Netgear WN300RP that dropped connection after a few hours of use and would need to be unplugged and plugged in to reconnect. The no-name brand wifi repeater stably repeats the Dlink 825 WiFi Router for more than 8 hours now. I need to see if this would be sustained for 24 hours. Moreover, sometimes one cannot help but doubt whether this economically priced gadget made from China would last me for at least more than a year until a new standard replaces N. But then again I worked with an expensive branded unit fairly recently and yet that conked out after only 3 weeks of use. So whether in the cheapo or expensive price range there will always be lemons.Final recommendation: This No-Name Brand Repeater/AP/Extender is worth trying for anyone who would like to extend their home wifi network at an economical price. My brother pleased with my experience asked me to get two units more of this model for his own home network. I ordered the USpeed brand (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MXGG5Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) so that I can make comparisons. Anyway, I told him if it does not work for him, we could always return it to Amazon for a full refund.

It just arrived today and setup was fairly straightforward. I set it up wirelessly rather than plugging it into the laptop with provided cord. Took 5 minutes tops. Went through the step by step on screen process, entered the password for my router once and done.I did a little experimenting with placement, getting it to the furthest point from my router that would still get a good signal. It just about doubled the distance that I can receive a signal now.One thing to be aware of though is that your speeds through the repeater will be greatly reduced when used wireless. So if you're watching video you may have some lag time for buffering. Regular browsing is fine though.I did a comparative speed test and found I was getting around 12-15 Mbps download speed when connected to my router's wifi, but only 1-3 Mbps when connected to the repeater. I had read elsewhere to expect half speed when using a repeater, but found it a lot less than that. Not a big deal unless you are watching streaming video.Overall a great purchase for the price. Very inexpensive way to be able to use my laptop and iPod Touch in areas that were impossible before.

Watch out guys, this device is not genuine. It is a bootleg version of Sabrent repeater. It doesn't work, signal drops after a minute. reset it many times, same result. The most upsetting part is that I found out afterwards that the genuine one cost the same. Unbelievable, selling bootleg at the same price. Most comforting part is that Amazon was able get me good deal on a different repeater.
