Product Description
The Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-150N Compact USB Adapter provides your Mac or Windows laptop or desktop computer with long range, high speed Wi-Fi access in a small package. The compact size of the USB adapter makes it easy to take with you wherever you go. The High Power adapter also features a high gain 3dBi Wi-Fi upgradable antenna and an internal power amplifier to give it the range necessary to connect to Wi-Fi networks over longer distances.

I used to have a linksys 802.11g PCI adapter, which worked flawlessly for years. A few months ago it stopped working. A sales person at local Fry's store sweet-talked me into buying a Amped 150N USB adapter. The hardware is nicely done. And it works after installation. Indeed I got good connection speed. And then the trouble started. Instead of using the native wireless driver built into the Windows OS, this 802.11n USB adapter requires a proprietary software from Amped installed on top of the Windows OS. Unfortunately this is where the problem is. The GUI of the software is very primitive, which is not a big deal since once it's running, you really don't have to touch it. The really bad part is that the software driver obviously didn't go through rigorous reliability testing. Ever since I installed the driver, I started to experience machine freeze, or blue screen of death (BSOD), to the frequency of almost once per day. Now I have switched back to another PCI wireless card and the problem is gone. A piece of advice: If it happens to you, don't even try to ask the company for help. Those first-line AE's will simply read the cue cards and find all kinds of excuses, and ask you to re-install this, uninstall that. It's a completely waste of time. Just get rid of it.UPDATE: After removing the buggy Amped software, the computer also becomes more responsive. The startup time at each boot is noticeably shorter. Here is what to do: uninstall the proprietary software from Amped; download CCleaner from internet (completely free) and run a clean-up job of the Registry. Reboot and enjoy a cleaner computer with one less piece of crappy software.SECOND UPDATE: It's been more than a month since I got rid of the crappy software this product installed on my computer. And the machine runs much faster, and the BSOD has long gone. I can't imagine any company can get away from selling this type of defective product at all.

I had been back and forth with HP for the last year about the wireless connection going on and off at the most inconvenient times. They never did solve the problem but this product did. I was worried that it would also be infected by the same issue since it had never been diagnosed. The last HP told me was that it was my virus protector. I didn't think that was it since I use Symantec Norton which is probably used by millions others.At any rate, the instructions were clear, the connection never stronger. My HP wireless still goes down but this keeps on chugg'in along so I no longer have nasty disconnects. And for the price take the chance. It really works.

I love the compact size! It's definitely great to travel with and easy to slip into my laptop bag. The adapter performs extremely well and receives 5 wireless signal bars every time! In addition, this little thing picks up more than enough wireless networks where ever you are. Again, this product does what it says!
