This is the long awaited successor to Alfa's popular AWUS036H. The AWUS036NHR utilizes a new 802.11n chipset from Realtek (RTL8188RU) and is light years ahead of its predecessor. Alfa's AWUS036NHR combines the fast speed of 802.11n with long range reception for both 802.11g and 802.11n standards. This Device is the best Alfa has Produced yet.
If you're built-in Wi-Fi adapter is not picking up your Router or if you are trying to pick up Wi-Fi from long distances then this is the device to get! Most Network Adaptors can get great Range and sensitivity when the router that they are receiving form is set to "N-only" mode which blocks backward compatibility with B and G adaptors but most people are not able to set the router to N-only mode as this would block connectivity for G-only devices like iPhones, Android phones, and many DVRs. This AWUS036NHR is one of the first Wi-Fi adapters to get very good receive sensitivity to both 802.11n-only, 802.11n/g mixed, and 802.11g networks

As of today, 11/21/11, this does not work with BackTrack 5 (or any backtrack) running within VMWare. Alfa does have Linux drivers on their website, which I checked for before I purchased, so I assumed (incorrectly) that it would be fine with BT5. I was wrong.There are workarounds using "compatible" drivers from other products, but none that release the full functionality of this device. Just a heads up for those (like me) who wanted this for testing purposes.I won't knock any stars from it, as in Windows 7 this things works amazingly well. With a Dlink wireless N USB adapter (can't recall model number), I could generally get about 3-4 networks near my house...and all were less than 2-3 bars excluding my router. When I plugged in this Alfa adapter, it picked up 14 wireless networks and the signal strength was up to 4-5 bars on the previously low signal ones. In fact, many of the AP's, that the other adapter didn't even see had at least 3-4 bars.So, great product..we just need some BT support.

I am a long-time customer of Alfa products...in fact I purchased the original 'high-gain' adapter from Taiwan before it was sold in the U.S. I paid about $60.00 for it, so as you can see Alfa has come a long way in competitive pricing. Buy this product! Right now! Let me explain why--It is widely known that the AWUS036NH (an updated model with Wireless-N capabilities) performs WORSE than the older AWUS036H (Wireless-G "only") in regards to sensitivity and network detection. Well, I am happy to report that the AWUS036NHR has just as good of sensitivity as the AWUS036H for Wireless-G networks....maybe even better! My stock adapter only got 2 bars for a particular WiFi network (G), my AWUS036H got all 5 bars, roughly 70% strength, and 80% link quality, and the new AWUS036NHR gets all 5 bars, nearly 90% strength and nearly 100% link quality!!!!It's never dropped a connection during browsing and only acts up if I move it around too much or mess with unplugging it and re-plugging it in.Detects Wireless-N networks fine, though I cannot comment on speed or connectivity on that standard. I just wanted to upgrade in case I want to log on to a N-type WiFi network.Worth every penny, very good price. Don't bother with any other.

I have been using the Alfa AWUS036H for two years now and it is a great product. Last week I decided to upgrade my network adapter and I bought the Alfa AWUS036NHR. The performance of Alfa AWUS036NHR is much worse than the Alfa AWUS036H. First, i used the driver that came with the box (on CD). The AWUS036NHR was able to view the available networks and the signal levels were good, but it could not connect to any network at all. Then, I downloaded an updated driver from alfa's website. This driver was much worse than the driver that was on the CD. The signal levels of networks dropped from 60-90% to 5-30%. I contacted alfa's customer services but they only sent me the same driver that was on their website. After three days of trying to make this adapter work properly, I just gave up and I will definitely return it.I also have the same problems described by Luba Roboto. I would not recommend buying this product unless they fix its problems and I cannot believe how they released this without proper testing. There are also other drawbacks such as it is not compatible with Alfa R36 Router.By the way, I am using Windows XP SP3.
