Does the job

I live on a boat and keep my wifi router in the dockbox ashore. By the time the signal made it out of the dockbox and through the fiberglass hull to the far end of the boat, the signal was pretty weak. Hooking up this little amp to the antenna output totally did the trick to get the signal back up to a decent level. I know have a couple more bars and much improved speed.The one negative note I would add is that this is the second one I received from Amazon. The first one worked for about 15 minutes as one would expect, then the signal dropped way back as if it was no longer amplified - even though the indicator lights on the amp acted normally. It was easy to return however and this replacement has been going strong for a couple months now.

good replacement for wornout booster

replaced a streen ($200) 1 watt booster with this not quite as powerful but inpressive for the price outperforms a 500 mw hawking booster by 33% using a 24 dbi Grid antenna wih 26 foot cable see about 30-35 people from the neighborhood. using a Edimax N pci wifi card, My PCI Express Asus N wifi card stayed EXACTLY the same No improvement (STRANGE) Rosewill card pci showed big inprovement., must be the chipset that deturmens if it boosts the signal or NOT? did not need included adapter. increased my speed because the sigal is stronger! 1000 foot streams Video?mostly

This is a great WiFi amplifier. I actually used these units with external antennas for my hotspot and I am getting quite a significant distance with it. They have been very stable as well. Nice product.

I'm a bit of a tech aficionado. If there is a bit of tech out there that will make life easier, I'll probably end up with it. Maybe not right away, but eventually I'll have to get my hands on it. See how it works. See if it helps.All that to say: I really appreciate it when a piece of tech just works right out of the box, with little effort on my part. Makes life easier, and no headaches.This Amped Smart Access Point is one such animal. Lotta help, with little effort.Our wireless router is in the basement, two floors from where I typically do my writing. The wireless coverage is good enough, but there have definitely been instances where I wished for better coverage on the second floor. Getting a wireless access point was something I had thought about in the past, but hadn't yet gotten around to. Then I saw this item in the Vine catalog. Had to try it out.In the room that I write in, I also had a wired switch to connect other appliances to the Internet. So when I realized this AP300 had four wired connection ports in addition to the wireless, I knew exactly what I'd do with it. I just swapped it for the wired switch.And it was literally no more than that. I unplugged the switch and all the Ethernet cables, plugged in the Amped machine and those same cables, and wha-laa, everything worked as before, and my wireless service was better. The only thing I had to consult the manual for was the wireless password. That's it!As an additional test, I checked the wireless coverage on our outside patio. I hoped at some point to be able to surf with my laptop or e-reader while lounging outside. This access point gives me about a bar or two better reception outdoors than the wireless router alone. (I never checked before. I just assumed since I live in a brick house that it wouldn't work. It would, but now it will work for a much wider area.)So, overall, life made easier, and with little hassle. The AP300 is a big winner in my book!** Update 05/04/2012 ** I've had this unit in constant use since I originally reviewed it (August 24, 2011) and it is still going strong. Can't beat it!** Update 05/25/2013 ** This unit is still functioning correctly. However, I just discovered an incompatibility it has with some gigabit switches. See my review of the TP-Link TL-SG1024D for more information. (In summary, make sure you use the 4-wire Ethernet cable that came with the AP300. Using an 8-wire might result in unexpected behavior.)

Easy to set up Access Point

I just received the Amped Wireless Access Point and within 5 minutes was up an running on my iPas and a Windows 7 PC. I had a problem with my Windows XP machine but after speaking with customer service (which answered my phone call within 2 minutes-no wait time) was shown how to configure the device to include XP as well. All three now work very well and the signal strength at the far end of my house is much stronger than my previous Trendnet Access Point.Obvioulsy, it is early but the initial impression is very good.

I have two PC's and one Mac in my house, and the instant I set up this router the PC's connected to it flawlessly and everything was great, but my MacBook had a similar problem as some other people complained about: it would lose connection frequently. After looking online, I only saw a bunch of people complaining about it and never telling anyone how to fix it. So, I installed the firmware update (you can find this at Belkin.com) and I haven't lost connection since!If I had only PC's I would have given this router 5 stars due to how easy it is to set up, how strong the signal is, how easy it is to set up a password and etc, but I'm giving it 4 stars simply because I had to install updated firmware to get it to work properly with my Mac. In Belkin's defense though, it was very easy to update the firmware.

Pretty, but useless

Short story: installed and configured the router, and discovered that I couldnt stay continuously connected for more than about 20 minutes. Firmware updates did not help. Different network cards, different client computers with different drivers did not help. Basically, its a lemon.My old linksys router would kick me out about every 2 hours, which is why I was looking for a replacement router in the first place, so this was a giant leap -- just in the wrong direction.Configuration was easy enough, but be aware that the idiots who built this thing designed it to show a banner page to anyone who can access your WAN IP that displays them the SSID in use, the MAC address of the router, the firmware version, etc., on the login page. Breathtakingly stupid.For interest's sake, I have since returned this router to Amazon, and replaced it with a D-link DIR-655 (paired with a DWA-643 Express card) which performs flawlessly for me (even under Windows Vista!). The D-link box doesnt display an over-informative banner page, doesnt kick me off at all, and is *very* speedy. Claimed throughput is 300Mbps, and I've seen transfers get within a couple of Mbps of that over my home LAN. It's a much better piece of hardware, and not very much pricier.

Fast and Easy!

My Linksys WRT54G is a few years old, and suddenly last week it began dropping our connections constantly. Each drop required a complete recycle of the modem and router to get it working again, and then it would only work for another 5-30 minutes before dropping again. Obviously out of warranty, not to mention this is the second Linksys we've owned that ended up dying the exact same way, I decided to try a new company.The Belkin set-up was so easy I found myself searching the box to make sure there weren't more instructions I was missing. I was never able to get Linksys working without calls to tech support, which is always a real PITA. After 5 minutes with the Belkin simple one-page instruction and install disc, we were live and ready to go. 3 of our computers run XP, and one is running Vista and there have been no connection issues with any of them.I installed the router this morning, and have not experienced a single connection drop during the day today. If it starts pulling that crap, I'll update the review with details.I also am extremely happy with the speed and range! The Linksys was unable to reach the back rooms of our home, but the Belkin gives us strong signal in every room of the house. It's much faster, not to mention it was $20 cheaper than a Linksys Wireless N.

For max mobility, use install option #2

Setup: Paired with an AT&T U-Verse gateway (2-WIRE model)This little device works well, but one thing I dislike is that both the instructions and software itself try to steer users towards using a different SSID than your home wifi router. It automatically attempts to append "_EXT" onto your SSID to create its own. While this is fine for stationary devices like media streamers and cams it is not the correct setup to allow one to move freely about a home, between floors, etc. with a mobile device.The way most consumer devices work is that they will hold onto a wifi signal and not try to hook onto a new SSID until it drops below, say, 50% for a given amount of time. For example, if your main wifi router is upstairs, and you place this device downstairs, once connected to this repeater your phone/tablet/etc. will likely stay connected to it even when you go back upstairs. This can be a problem as many devices will boost their wifi antenna power in order to try to maintain a more stable connection to a wifi router, and this puts a drain on the battery.The better way to set things up for max mobility is to perform the manual setup ("Option #2" in the user guide), and change the SSID to match your main wifi router's. For example, if your SSID is called "mywifi", set the SSID on this repeater to "mywifi" as well. Most consumer devices move much more freely between multiple matching SSID points than they do between disparate SSIDs. This way, no matter where you move within the space your device will likely swap to the closest/strongest wifi. I have verified this behavior on Android, Chrome OS, and iOS.Using a single SSID works for stationary devices, too. If you see your SSID repeated in the list of available connections (this is how it appears on a Roku player, for example), simply select the first one in the list as the entries are ordered by signal strength.

Works great with a WNDR3700v2

I have been pleasantly surprised with this extender. My WNDR3700 is in the basement next to a large metal work bench and under a lot of metal piping. All of this interference creates a deadzone on the other side of the first floor in the two bedrooms. The house is wired, but this is really annoying for iPads and laptops. I was considering running some longer CAT5e and putting the router in the middle of the basement on a wall, but I tried this extender first.It's a much more expensive solution than $6/50' of CAT5e (monoprice.com), but I also wanted to extend the WiFi out into the backyard. I plugged the WN3000RP into the wall, waited for the green ready light, pressed the WPS button on the WNDR3700, held down the WPS button on the WN3000RP, and the connection was made. I had a new network named MySSID_EXT with the same security and passphrase.I tested it out with INSSID on my laptop and my WiFi Analyzer app on my phone. I wandered the house checking the signals. In the bedroom I had a very weak signal from the router(or no signal)and an excellent signal from the extender. In the backyard, I had no signal from the router and a still excellent signal from the extender. Speed tests showed no real difference in speed, but Netgear says you should expect some reduction in speed. It could impact video streaming or file sharing, but I haven't noticed any issues.I would really like to see an extender like this that supports 5Ghz, but 2.4 is just fine for what I needed. I also don't have a lot of other networks nearby.The house is 1,700 sq. feet on the first floor and the extender provides a signal everywhere. The backyard is fairly small, but I can go about 75' to my patio and still have an excellent signal (that's about 140' from the extender through a wall. The extender is placed at the edge of the deadzone, as Netgear says it should be.

Great Product!

I have a Wireless N router (Linksys WRT160N V2) at one end of my house where my main Desktop PC is located. I bought a new laptop which i use 95% of the time at the other FAR end of my home and the signal i got was poor to fair.I was looking to upgrade my signal quality to my bedroom as much as possible and purchased 3 different wireless N routers trying to accomplish this. None of them got any better range. I returned each router and then searched for Wireless N Range Extenders and came across this at Staples.I wasn't too sure it would work but boy was i pleasantly surprised!I bought it, took it home and had it installed in about 10 mins.I placed it about half-way of my home and then went and connected my laptop and BAM! Excellent signal strength with 300.0 connection speed!I am very happy with this product so far.Highly recommended for those needing extended coverage of your current wireless setup.

Works great with Win7 64bit OS

I've been trying to get a wireless adapter for my Windows 7 64bit operating system for a few weeks, but none of them had drivers that worked with my PC. And then I stumbled upon this little beauty and it worked as soon as I plugged it in - the drivers installed automatically (I didn't even have to use the drive mini-CD that came with the device).

A deal at twice the price!

I purchased two of these for my wife and myself because we like to sit out back on nicer evenings and wear down our laptop batteries together. I have installed the drivers on XP, Vista, Windows 7 and tonight on Ubuntu 10.10. In order of ease-of-install I go with Win7, Vista, Ubuntu and XP. Win7 and Vista both installed the drivers without the disk, Ubuntu seemed trickier but not really. I plugged it in, ran update manager and rebooted (Ubuntu does a full reboot on my netbook in under a minute and a half.) XP was a nightmare of picking through the mis-labeled folders on the disk, giving up and finding the drivers online. As far as performance is concerned, I saw little signal boost on XP (went from 1 bar without to 2 bars with.) Win7 and Vista both showed a steady two bar increase (1 without to 3 with) but the most impressive was Ubuntu. On Ubuntu I went from barely 1 bar without the dongle to full signal with a rare fluctuation down to 3 bars if someone stands directly in the signal path. I've read the other reviews and they seem pretty mixed but my opinion is that this is hands-down the best purchase under $20 I've ever made. I'm writing this review from my back patio with my Ubuntu powered Ideapad s10-3t and wireless dongle."A computer is like an air conditioner, it works great until you open Windows."

A good solution to wireless range extension

I use a wireless router in the house with great success. However, the range is pretty weak or my house is too big, and I am pretty sure it's not the latter. As a result, I researched a variety of solutions, none of which seemed too appealing to implement (bridges, wireless range extenders, new RF antenna, etc). It just all seemed too complicated, and I consider myself pretty tech savvy.Fortunately, I was reading through some tech reviews and stumbled upon the Netgear Wireless wall-plugged router kit. It seemed like it was pretty simple to setup and easy to use. Well, I can report that it is exactly that.There is no software to install at all. You simply plug in the ethernet cable from the cable modem in one room into the Netgear plug and then plug that into the wall. Check that all three green lights are lit and you are good to go.The next step is to take the second half of the Netgear plug into the desired room in the house and plug it into an electric socket. When its three lights are lit, you have a connection and are good to go in there. My laptop computer picked up wireless signal immediately and I was surfing the web in no time flat. Basically, it was flawless.So, WHY am I am only giving it four stars? Two reasons:First, the wireless range of the Netgear plug is pretty weak. It definitely doesn't have the power of my main wireless modem. Then again, it doesn't have an antenna AND it still works, so it's no big deal; it's just not perfect.Second, the Netgear plugs need to be plugged in somewhat near each other to function correctly and get the Homelink green light to turn green. When the Netgear plugs were plugged in on opposite ends of the house (what I was hoping for to maximize range), it did not achieve a homelink connection. However, when I moved the plugs to outlets that were closer together (but still outside my wireless routers range), it DID work. So, partial credit again here. While I cna't explain why it did not work, perhaps the electrical homelink signal degrades the farther the outlets are apart.Anyway, everything is working pretty smoothly now and I am excited that I can get a signal in another area of the house that was not covered by internet previously.

Worked for 6 weeks then died

I bought this product from Amazon in July because it seemed the solution to my problems, a very low wireless signal in my garage. I was prepared for the worst, i.e. that my powerline from my router wouldn't be on the same circuit as the outlet in my garage. Fortunately, they were.It took about 20 minutes to get everything working correctly. The instructions weren't the greatest but a little messing around and I suddenly had Excellent signal strength in my garage where I play multiplayer games online. The signal was constant and in the next six weeks remained strong, never weakening.The problem came in week six when the extender unit in the garage suddenly died. Only the Powerline light was lit -- the power light and Wireless connectivity green LEDs were permanently dark. Considering how hot the two units can get when constantly left on, it's not that surprising there might be some burn out risk. I believe this to be a design flaw.I went to the web and found a lot of people (I counted five) with accounts identical to mine. The units worked perfectly for 4-6 weeks then died. I suggest anybody buying these units after reading this post, keep the box for at least 3 months to make returning easier.When I called Tech Support at Netgear, my call was answered pretty quickly after navigating through the voicemail options. The first tech was from India, very friendly, but ran me through a predictable sequence of tests (reset this with a pin, take it out of the outlet, put it back in, "I believe you have a faulty unit"). My call was then elevated to an inexplicably hostile tech support person, also in India, who ran me through exactly the same tests before also concluding I had a faulty unit. Altogether, this wasted 45 minutes of my time.I was given 3 options:1) Return the unit at my own expense and Netgear would send me a replacement unit2) Pay $16.99 and Netgear would send me a new unit and I could box up my old unit and return it postage paid.3) Pay $27.99 and get an express version of #2.Now, I'm not usually very picky, but it annoyed me that I should have to do anything at my own expense when I'd paid $120 for the Netgear product and it failed within 6 weeks. I opted for the cheapest solution #1 then tried a different option, I bought a new wireless USB adapter from Linksys and turned off my old PCI card (which lamely was also Netgear) and am getting a constantly Very Good signal with it. It's not Excellent, but it's unlikely to burn out again in 6 weeks.I can't recommend this product anymore (I unfortunately persuaded a commuter friend to buy it and am hoping it doesn't burn out) or indeed any Netgear product after my experience with their goods, customer service or return policy.

Useless even if it worked

I had two problems with this wall plugged router:First, I spent 2 hours on the phone with technical support at the end of which tech support threw up their hands and said it must be my firewall.Second, tech support guy 1 and guy 2 both said, "both devices must be plugged in to the same circuit" that is, on the same electrical breaker, in order for it to work properly. In 95% of US homes each circuit covers 1 to 3 adjacent rooms, the area covered by a decent regular wireless router. If you need a range extender, the area you want to extend to is extremely unlikely to be on the same electrical circuit. Duh.If you read the reviews, it appears that many people have had good success with this device. My recomendation - if it fits your needs buy it, save the reciept and, if it's not up an running in 20 minutes, take it back.

Does not work.

I used this antenna with a WRT54G router, to extend my coverage to a desktop with another Linksys wireless PCI card. The antenna makes absolutely no difference; it's no better than the stock antenna that comes on the WRT54G.A note on the seller (DB Roth - New Jersey): the antenna arrived in a flimsy white plastic postal bag. I'm amazed it wasn't cracked. For the excessive shipping and handling charge on this item, I would have expected better (adaquate) packaging. If it was cracked/broken, the buyer would have to return the item (at their own expense). The seller obviously doesn't care about the condition of the product.

Did Not Help

This item arrived as advertised. Installation was easy, fit was perfect. The signal strength I had BEFORE changing to the High Gain Antenna was stronger than AFTER. I took them off and put my originals back on. I would not buy this item again.

Doesn't work

It took five weeks to receive the product but the company is based in Arizona according to Amazon and it doesn't help with my wireless connection to boost the signal to my laptop in another room down the hall. Very disappointed!

I love this router

I've had several Linksys routers in the past and liked them OK ... I switched to DLink for a little while and HATED their product (not to mention it died after a month). So I purchased the WRT54GX2 and LOVE IT. You don't need the Linksys wireless card accessory to take advantage of the increased speed either - any old wifi receiver will do. The reception range is incredible (two story house with large backyard and I've found no dead spots yet!) I feel fairly safe behind the easy to navigate firewall options, and it has not needed to be reset once since I got it four months ago (that's a first for any router). My only complaint, and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, is that we couldn't get our Nintendo DS online with it ... apparently the WRT54GX2 just won't do it. But I'm fine with that since my kids are little and I don't need to worry about them on the internet with their game boys. If you want a dependable router that does what it says it does, but this product.

What a piece of junk!

I have had pretty good success with Linksys products in the past and I would consider myself an above average user. So when I read some negative feedback about this product I figured it was just some user configuration issues. Was I wrong!!!It wireless fuction worked off and on for a couple of weeks before I exchanged the model at the store. The second model had the same problem. During my 2 months of dealing with this nightmare I must have spent 30 to 40 hours on the phone with tech support. The first time I was on hold for over 3 hours. I had to reexplain the issues to tech support each time (you would think they could just read the case notes!!). EVERY time they asked if I was using a Linksys adapter card or if I was running WPA security. Each time I politely explanined that I did not have a Linksys card and that I would like to run WPA because the box, literature and website all said the device was backwards compatible with any b/g device and that it supported WPA. I finally gave up and turned off all security features and I still had the same problem.Do not buy this router!! The frustration that is involved if it does not work with an internal Intel wireless card is unbelievable. And the tech support is all done from India, which is fine, but there is a real language barrier sometimes.

The SRX200 is a great, reliable router!

I setup and install wireless networks for a living, and this router has certainly been bad for my business :-) I have installed around 20 of them for small (mostly home) networks, and after they get installed, none of my customers has to call me about router problems. (This is the "bad for business" part.)Just make sure that you go and download the latest firmware for the router off of the Linksys.com web site. You might even want to save the firmware on your PC before installing the router so you can do the firmware update immediately.Of course, since I do this for a living, I don't use the install wizard(s) so I don't know how easy or hard the router is to configure properly if you are a newbie in this area.Finally, the main reason I recommend this router to my customers is definitely not speed. You would essentially need to purchase all new wireless adapters to get the speed boost advertised. However, speed is not the major concern of most of my customers - but distance from router is a big concern. Many of my customers have big homes or "roomy" businesses where a typical G54 router cannot cover the entire home/business. This router increases the distance one can be from the router by 1.5 to 2 times when compared with a typical G54 router.With the current price of less than $60, this router is a great buy!
